Education
Perhaps no single factor has been more important to the community’s rapid growth than the excellence of the Pflugerville ISD. Pflugerville is widely recognized as having one of the most outstanding public school systems in Central Texas, making the city a highly desirable destination for Austin-area families and homebuyers. The school district encompasses 95 square miles in the northeast portion of Travis County. With 18 elementary schools, five middle schools and three high schools, Pflugerville ISD has more than 20,000 students. Enrollment is expected to double to more than 40,000 students by 2020.
With the explosive population growth in the community, Pflugerville ISD has also experienced rapid growth during the past few decades. Even with substantial growth, the district has maintained a solid teaching curriculum and a strong reputation. A new Pflugerville ISD curriculum was implemented in 2009 that appears to havehelped raise student performance. The district's Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, or TAKS, test scores for 2009 show increases in 22 of the state-mandated test’s 25 performance indicators. As a result, the number of recognized and exemplary Pflugerville ISD campuses doubled in 2009. In addition, the gap between the highest-performing and the lowest-performing students was lessened. Pflugerville ISD is committed to buildinga strong, smart workforce of tomorrow, today.
