Ted Cruz to Hold Healthcare Discussion in Austin

Texas Senator Ted Cruz is headed to Austin Thursday evening to talk to veterans as part of his statewide tour to discuss his version of the proposed Senate health care plan. Sen. Cruz was invited by the Concerned Veterans for America to conduct a town hall-style meeting that will focus on issues faced by veterans.

Sen. Cruz aims to repeal the Affordable Care Act but offering an amendment to the Better Care Reconciliation Act. However, Cruz wants to keep the provision allowing those who purchase insurance on the open market to be given access to the plan of their choice.

“It’s kind of like when President Obama said if you like your healthcare plan you can keep it. “That’s what we’re actually trying to do here. Sen. Cruz is trying to give you access to the health care plan of your choice.” - Chip Roy with the Texas Public Policy Foundation

The discussion begins Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Renaissance Austin Hotel. Although, groups are forming to protest outside of the event as early as 5:30 p.m.
