Courtesy of the American Academy of Pediatrics, we have included a list of tips and tricks to having a safe yet spooktacular Halloween!

ALL DRESSED UP:

  • Plan costumes that are bright and reflective. Make sure that shoes fit well and that costumes are short enough to prevent tripping, entanglement or contact with flame.

Austin Ranks #24 on List of Hottest Zip Codes

Austins most recent accolade comes from Realtor.com analysis of over 32,000 ZIP codes. This analysis is based on factors such as the time it takes properties to sell and how frequently homes are viewed in each ZIP code. The top 10 markets in this list are seeing homes sell in an average of 21 days -- 50 days faster than the rest of the country. The homes in these markets are also being viewed almost four times more than homes in other areas of the country.

The trend in these hot housing markets has a lot to do with the appeal to millennials preferences. In today's market, the standouts are relatively affordable, large shares of older millennials, high millennial ownership rates, and high salaries. These ZIP codes tend to be suburb areas with local 'it' factors such as hiking trails, great restaurants, and nightlife. The largest group...

Austin's New Central Library Grand Opening Scheduled for this Weekend

The City of Austin welcomes the new Austin Central Library as a place of consequence. With a build that greatly resembles Austin City Hall, the library is said to absorb the environment and takes its guests to unheralded heights.

The floor surfaces in the 198,000-square-foot, multi-angled structure are made of cut mesquite blocks. This material is so hard that it once was popularly used to pave the streets of San Antonio.  The vast windows and interior surfaces transmit huge volumes of natural light, while perforated metal sunscreens, sometimes rendered as screen porches, sometimes as literary quotations punched through the metal, protect the airy six floors of the library from heat and glare.

The new Library is completed with a rooftop garden that will soon be accompanied by a coffee bar. ...

Austin ISD puts forth plans to boost performance at four campuses that received negative ratings under the Texas Education Agency's accountability system. These plans were approved 8-0-1 at Monday nights board of trustees meeting.

Campuses that are rated "improvement required" in 2017 must participate in the Texas Accountability Intervention System. This system includes an in-depth data analysis and a comprehensive needs assessment to determine areas in need of improvement. The four campuses that have drafted plans for improvement are Govalle Elementary as well as Burnet, Martin and Mendez middle schools.

Templated plans are provided to the district by the Texas Education Agency. Throughout the year, campuses work to reach certain benchmarks. Progress is monitored by the district as well as an agency representative, Superintendent...

Costly Remodeling Missteps that New Homeowners Make

After the negotiations are over, the keys are in your hand, and the excitement sets in...and then the nervousness starts to take over. You have all the freedom, YOU hold the reigns, now what do you do with them? When starting the remodeling and process of getting your dream home in the works, make sure not to be too eager and make one of these common new homeowner mistakes.

1. Going with the Lowest Bid

Double-check that all bids include the same project scope — sometimes one is cheaper because it doesn’t include all the actual costs and details of the project. The contractor may lack the experience to know of additional steps and costs.

2.  Submitting Small Business Claims

Submitting a claim or two, especially in a relatively short period, can trigger an increase in your premium. Save your insurance for something...

Austin Real Estate Experiences the Hottest Summer Ever

According to the Austin Board of Realtor's August 2017 report, we just experienced the best summer selling season Central Texas has ever seen. This selling season is the strongest on record in terms of single-family home sales and median prices across the area. This was caused by the rise in home prices as well as the surge in sales.

Brandy Guthrie, 2017 President of the Austin Board of REALTORS®, commented: “The Central Texas housing market just experienced the strongest summer selling season on record. The Austin-Round Rock MSA saw record-breaking growth, during which median price topped $300,000 and home sales volume topped $1 billion four consecutive months in a row.”

While home sales increased and prices grew, housing inventory was also on the high-rise. This change is normal as we are seeing positive upticks in housing inventory across our region. Check out the August 2017 Stats below.

Austin Ranked #4 on List of Best Cities for Gamers

Did you know that the gaming industry is globally over $100 billion industry? That’s nearly on par with the sports industry! 60% of Americans aged 18-29 play video games often as do 53% of Americans between the ages 30-49! I bet you didn’t know that playing games like candy crush on your smart phone makes you a “gamer.” According to a study done by WalletHub, Austin is ranked 4th on a list of Best Cities for Gamers.

One of the main reasons Austin is on this list is because of video game stores per capita, share of households owning a computer, average internet speed, and internet cost. With Google freshly in Austin, the Internet has never been more available or as fast as it is now.

Lastly, another factor is gamer and developer opportunities. Austin is a rising tech hub with many “techies” in the area, which adds to the number of gamers.  SXSW Gaming Festival is the biggest factor....
