Millennials Make Austin's 78749 One of U.S.' Hottest Zip Codes

Millennials are a powerful force that dictate on current housing markets, thanks to their fast-rising numbers and growing purchasing power. Because of this, real estate analysts find it valuable to study and project where these young home buyers are investing next. Realtor® conducted a study to determine the zip codes where properties are selling fastest to millennials. Across 32,000 ZIP Codes, 20 hottest markets came out to be the top choices of home buying millennials.

With main criteria of the study being affordable housing and strong job markets, researchers found that the 20 hottest ZIP codes sell 53 days faster than the national average at 25 days. Also, homes in these ZIP codes are viewed almost four times more often than other homes for sale in the country.

Jonathan Smoke, chief economist of Realtor.com®, says that "homes for sale in this year's hottest ZIP codes are selling almost as quickly as they hit the market," and that this phenomenon can be attributed to millennials who are capable of shifting supply and demand dynamics with their size and growing purchasing power.
