There is the University of Texas, live music, reasonable cost of living, and the tech boom have been major factors in Austin’s ranking. Austin Placed 8th on List of the Safest Metro Cities in America

Moving to a big city can be frightening, there are many unknown people and greater opportunity for crime. In a recent study done by safewise, Austin placed 8th on a list of the safest metro cities in America! In 2017, Austin was ranked 26th. Austin has upped its game in public safety in the last year and continues to be more and more safe.

The population of Austin sits at approximately 950,000 and is only going to continue to rise. Even with this many people, the average “violent crimes” per 1,000 people sits at only 4. I don’t know about you, but this sounds much more appealing than Detroit, MI that has an average of 20.5 “violent crimes” for every 1,000 people.

Another statistic to look at is the “property crime” per 1,000 people. The average for Austin is right at 35 per 1,000 people. Not a bad number to be at considering cities like Memphis, St. Louis, Cleveland, and Oakland all sit above 50 per 1,000. Not the easiest places...

Austin Awarded #1 Best Place to Live

The U.S. News and World Report have named Austin the #1 Best Place to Live in the United States for the second year in a row. While this doesn't come as any shock, we are extremely excited to share the news. 

The Texas Capital took the top spot in the U.S News and World Report magazine's 2018 edition of its Best Places to Live in the U.S. list, which ranks major metro areas on a number of factors. These six factors included the following: unemployment, annual household income, cost of living, education, healthcare, and migration.

Austin beat out 124 of the United States largest metropolitan areas after being assigned a score in each of five different categories: desirability, value, job market, quality of life, and net migration.

Austin #2 Fastest Job Growth in U.S

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released their final 2017 metro area job statistics recently and Austinites were not surprised! Austin has been ranked the #2 fastest city for job growth in 2017, by adding 22,200 new jobs with a growth of 2.2%. 

  • Wholesale trade was the fastest growing industry in the Austin MSA, increasing jobs by 7.1% (3,500 jobs) over the last 12 months. Leisure and hospitality added the most jobs—6,000 (4.9% growth).
  • Manufacturing jobs grew 5.1% year-over-year, outpacing private industry growth for the seventh month in a row.
  • Austin's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 2.6%, reduced from 2.9% in September. Texas’ rate fell below 4.0% for the first time since the published data begins in 1976.

It's no secret, Austin is full of amazing people who love spreading goodness, and now WalletHub has confirmed it as one of the happiest cities in the U.S! WalletHub drew upon the various findings of positive-psychology research in order to determine which among more than 180 of the largest U.S. cities is home to the happiest people in America. The study was based on 28 key indicators of happiness, ranging from depression rate to income-growth rate to average leisure time spent per day.
