Austin ranked  #1 in 2023’s Best State Capitals for Safety with a state capital index of 65.83. WalletHub identified the best state capitals to live in by comparing all 50 metropolitan areas in the U.S. across four key dimensions with corresponding weights —affordability, quality of education and health, economic well-being and quality of life. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale and their data set ranges from the cost of living to K–12 school-system quality to the percentage of fully vaccinated residents.
