Austin Unemployment Rate Dips Even MoreThe unemployment rate in Austin has dropped even more as 2,300 new jobs were added to the city in December 2013. According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the unemployment rate is now down to and unadjusted rate of 4.5 percent. 

In December 2012, the local unemployment rate was at 5 percent. In the past year, over 27,000 jobs have been added to the Austin market.

Austin's new unemployment rate is a full 2 percentage points under the national average of the 6.5 percent unadjusted rate. The future looks bright as well, as even more jobs are comming to Austin during 2014. Athenahealth Inc, a Massachussettes based healthcare software company, has proposed bringng more than 600 jobs to the area.
