Austin Technology Employees Among Highest Paid in the Country

Austin's technology industry employees are among the highest paid in the country, according to a recent report released by Forbes. 

According to the report, Austin techies earned an average of $92,000 last year, which was a 3 percent increase from the previous year. In the report, Austin ranked the 10th best city for highest paid jobs in the technology industry. The area is home to many major tech industry employers, including Dell, AMD, Apple, IBM, AT&T and Freescale to name a few.

The Silicon Valley ranked the number one spot for high-paying tech jobs. This is no surprise and that area has been the highest rated for the last nine years. The average salary in this strip between San Francisco and San Jose California is approximately $109,000. 

Other top tech industry cities in the country included Baltimore/Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston, New York City, Denver, Houston and Philadelphia.  The Baltimore/Washington also has a strong hold in the industry as is placed second on the list for the past 5 consecutive years. 

According to the report, there has overall been a 3% increase in salary for tech position across the country. Job security seems quite secure in the industry as well. Unemployment rates in the technology sector are down according to numbers from Bureau of Labor Statistics. The 3.7 percent rate is less than half of the national average.
