Austin is one of the 6 STEM Leaders in the U.S.
STEM workers (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) play an essential role in the U.S. Economy. The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics projected that employment in STEM occupations will increase by 10.5% from 2020 to 2030.
Austin is one of the 6 STEM Leaders in the U.S. working on the growth in these fields. Austin Chamber of Commerce and Area Independent School Districts joined together for a program that connects the students to companies that provide great opportunities, workplace learning, and internships in these fields.
Gilbert Zavala, Vice President of Education and Talent Development for the Austin Chamber of Commerce, said, “Austin is an attractive place for tech companies because of our talent. To remain competitive, we must ensure our next generation of local STEM talent can access the postsecondary education and training they need to compete for high-demand jobs in Central Texas. These efforts will deepen our overall talent pool and provide opportunities for young people to get interested and involved in STEM careers.”
